Yanga Confirm Kenyan in Leadership Role

MAINLAND champions Young Africans have announced to have included former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Technical Director/ Education Officer Patrick Naggi and other two officials into the Executive Committee.
Yanga Vice-Chairman Clement Sanga told journalists that Naggi will be part of the club's leadership but his official position will be made public in two months. Lawrence Mwalusako will continue to hold the position of Acting General Secretary until further notice.
Along with Naggi, other officials are Beno Salvatory Njovu (Administration and Finance Consultant) and George Simba Magani, who will be in charge of marketing. Naggi reportedly stepped into the club house mid last week and told members that he is the new General Secretary but the club officials later said his appearance at the club house was incidental.
The latest development comes hardly a week after Yanga leadership had denied reports that the club has appointed a new secretariat under Naggi. In-fact Sanga had told journalists that they were still in the process of appointing a new secretariat.
"This process is still ongoing and many individuals have come forward to apply for the available posts," he said, adding that Mwalusako was among individuals who have applied for the jobs and his fate will depend on the results of the process.
Sanga said the latest development is aimed at improving the capacity of the secretariat and the club's in general for it to record success both in and outside the field. He said they will appoint a Technical Director, General Secretary and Director of Finance. He noted that the Executive Committee felt it was wise to contract an agency that would run the whole process of hiring a new secretariat, with the aim of getting best and qualified candidates.
Sanga, however, said there was nothing wrong for the club to appoint a foreigner or a non-Yanga member in the secretariat. He cited the club's head coach, Dutchman Ernie Brandts who was employed as a non member and given membership later.
"The same could be done for the secretariat officials," he said. Last week's reports on Naggi's appointment sparked resentment from a section of the club's fans and members led by a Council of Elders. The elders staged a protest against the club's leadership decision, saying it was against the Yanga constitution to employ non-members in the secretariat or any other leadership posts.
They said Yanga have many individuals who are qualified to do the job. Speaking on behalf of other elders, 'Mzee' Ibrahim Ally Akilimali bitterly opposed the move saying, "We'll not allow this nonsense at our club and we'll never recognize the appointed leaders unless they provide evidence that they are Yanga members.
Naggi was suspended indefinitely by FKF last year, allegedly for theft of 100 match balls -- accusations he had strongly denied.
