Tanzania: Zanzibaris Called to Assist Police in Acid Attack Investigation

Zanzibar's President Ali Mohammed Shein on Saturday (September 14th) urged citizens to help police investigate the attack on Catholic priest Anselm Mwangamba who was burned with acid Friday, the latest such assault following an attack on two British women last month, AFP reported.
The elderly priest was burned on his face, chest and arms, minutes after he had left an internet café in Stone Town.
"We cannot continue living in fear and have people being targeted by thugs using acid," Shein told reporters after visiting Mwangamba in the hospital. "The criminal network must be destroyed, and people should help end this problem".
Shein has offered a 9.7 million shilling ($6,000) reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible, Tanzania's Daily News reported.
Zanzibar police commissioner Mussa Ali Mussa said authorities have questioned some suspects but no arrests had yet been made.
