After failing to secure a contract with Democratic
Republic of Congo’s St. Lupopo FC during the transfer window that ended
last month, former Simba goalkeeper Juma Kaseja has ecventually crossed
over to Ashanti United with effecet from yesterday.
Ashanti United goalkeepers’ coach who also happens to be a former Simba custodian Idd Pazi confirmed KAseja’s move to join his club.
However, Kaseja will be in full use by the newly promoted team at the beginning of the second half of the season as his registration was not timely done to beat transfer deadline.
Ashanti, a team now struggling to earn points after four appearances in the ongoing Mainland premier soccer league, rue as to why the decision to recruit the best goalkeeper in the country.
Kaseja ws offloaded by Simba at the end of the registration period and only the Lubumbashi-based DRC top flight side was interested to sign him.
He came close to seal the deal with St. Lupopo but it came as a surprise when the transfer failed to materialise at the end of the window.
His move to Ashanti has come at a time when football stakeholders wondered how the goalkeeper would have maintained his position at the national team without a top flight side attachment.
Kaseja joined Simba over ten years ago from Moro United and he crossed over to archrivals Yanga for one season in 2008/9 before bouncing back to samba until end of the previous season.
Simba lost confidence in the goalkeeper for reasons that were not made public and his number has been replaced by Ugandan goalkeeper Abel Dhaira.
Kaseka joins Ashanti for a fre stransfer and the deal would not be made public by the club’s officials. He will be training with the team but ineligible to play while waiting for mid-season trabafer window to open later in November.
Ashanti United played three premeirhip matches ahead of yesteday’s tie against Azam without a point to stay at the base of the standings table.
