Transport Minister Dr Harrison Mwakyembe has
dissolved the Tanzania Ports Authority eight-member Board of Directors
and appointed a new one; this time with five members only.
The Minister made the announcement yesterday in a statement availed to The Guardian.
The minister’s move is based on authority given him under section 6 (2) of the Port’s Act and Article 1 (2) (i) of the first table of the Port’s Act of 2004.
The five members of the new board are Jaffer Machano, Saidi Salum Sauko, Col (rtd) Joseph Simbakalia, Eng Kipallo Aman Kisamfu and TPA staff representative.
Dr Mwakyembe said the changes were part of efforts by the ministry to secure efficiency in the port authority that ensures attainment of the nation’s Big Results Now initiative.
According to the statement six former board members were expelled while another board member known as Dr Jabiri Kuwe Bakari to head the electronic government (e-government) agency.
It mentioned those who were affected by the minister’s decision as John Ulanga, Caroline Temu, Dr Hildbrand Shayo, Eng Julius Mamiro and Asha Nassoro.
